Rabindra jayanti was celebrated at B.G.K.V on Thursday, 8th May. The day began with Rabindra-jigyasha, an inter-house quiz on Rabindranath Tagore. There were 4 different rounds in the quiz - a direct round, a music round, a buzzer round and a rapid fire round. In the music round parts of Rabindra-sangeet were sung and participants had to identify the song and sing a few lines from the same song with correct wordings. The quiz was a success as it saw commendable performance by all the 4 houses. In the next event, the students enthralled the spectators with 2 soulful Vedic songs. This was followed by an inter-house skit competition for students of the same standard. This segment saw the participants perform short comic dramas by Tagore. The spectators enjoyed their performance. This was followed by 6th standard students performing Tagore's famous song "Purano Shei Diner Kotha" and the original Scottish song, ‘Auld Lang Syne’, by which Tagore was influenced to write this song. In this slot, students of the same standard efficiently enacted Tagore's famous poem "Birpurush". In the last segment, the students of 8th standard performed "Nrityalekhyo" - a series of dance performance on a few songs of Tagore for the different seasons - summer, monsoon, autumn, winter and spring. Throughout the programme, spectators were given chances to win prizes by answering simple questions on the life and works of Rabindranath Tagore.
